Looks like this is going to be a dry winter for the sierra nevada's

According to the latest NOAA reports regarding snow or rain in the lake tahoe area....the outlook looks bleak for any major storm. Just take a look what some are saying now about how this dry weather for the carson valley area will affect their living next year.

According to people living in the more rural areas of Minden, water might actually be a concern this year. Last year we had a flood buster season. It ended a 6 year drought that the Minden and Gardnerville areas were occurring. Luckily for the residence however of the Carson Valley, the Carson River did no serious damage to most infrastructures.

Here is what the weather will look like after Christmas

Hello,
Today we heard some good news from the Reno NOAA office. That is that their is now an avalanche watch in place do to the small amount of snow we have just received. I cannot wait for the real snow fall to come in order to go snowboarding. I love going to Heavenly Mountain Resort and go snowboarding.

Currently however the conditions with or without the avalanche warning does not make for good snowboarding. Hopefully in the near future we will get some of that famous "sierra cement" snow that makes for a great base pack.

The Weather in the Reno/Tahoe Area for the Christmas Holiday

Hello,
Just wanted to check up and let you know what the weather is going to be like in the Carson Valley area as well as other areas in this region (Like Lake Tahoe). The most accurate way for me to post about the weather is to follow the NOAA Forecast discussion for the NWS Reno area.

Here is the latest on the inversion effects that we are occurring on the valley floor.

Here is the most up to date look at what the NOAA thinks the forecast will look like. Unfortunately even with the clouds, they do not anticipate any precipitation for the next week. These clouds will just work as convention clouding and help to keep the valley floors warmer at night then on a non cloudy day.

At the end of the day though its all about getting more snow. Here is some great info about how snow accumulates; and also how it can form into an avalanche condition when the snow falls with different water contents and such.
